| Detailed Itinerary : |
Arrival Colombo- Waikkal (20km/0.5 hrs) Welcomed by representatives of Sri Lanka Travel Centre at the Bandaranaike International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at the hotel (Vehicle for transfer)
Day 02 : Waikkal – Giritale (210km) Total Biking Distance : 35 km Category : Soft to ModerateAfter breakfast, cycle along some scenic villages, paddy fields and coconut palms to Kurunegala, a place renowned for its rocky outcrops and midieval heritage sites. From Kurunelgala, drive onwards to Giritale. Enroute you can visit the cave temple complex in Dambulla, featuring hundreds of statues of the Buddha – some built with brick and mrotar, while some others are carved out of the living rock. In Giritale you could take a pleasant evening stroll around a artificial lake that was created during midieval times for irrigation purposes.Check into your hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 03 : Giritale This morning you will drive to Sigiriya and visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. An awe inspiring structure sitting atop a 200 mt rock outcrop, the ruins of this 5th century fortress are one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions and a climb to the top is not for the faint hearted. From Sigiriya you will continue onwards to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, where you will see the grandiose remains of this medieval capital located by the side of the magnanimous man-made lake “Parakrama Samudraya” built by the king Parakrmabahu–I(1153-1186 AD). Enjoy the superbly carved Vadatage and also the many statues at Gal Vihara which includes the famous 5 metre long reclining Buddha.Overnight at the resort.
Day 04 : Giritale – Kandy (125km) Total Biking Distance : 55 kms Category : ModerateUsing a combination of biking and road transfers you will travel to Kandy today- passing picturesque villages, rivers and mountain summits enroute. You will first head for Pallegama, a beautiful village set on one of the tributaries of the Mahaweli River in the foothills of the spectacular Knuckles Mountains.You will then drive up into the highlands before cycling down to nearby Matale. From here you will drive on to the town of Kandy. Situated in the mountains, Kandy offers the perfect weather for some pleasant biking. In the afternoon take a tour of the city, visit the temple of the Sacred Tooth relic and watch a cultural show featuring traditional Kandyan dance performances. Overnight at the hotel (Vehicle at disposal)
Day 05 : Kandy Total Biking Distance : 30 km Category : ModerateEnjoy biking in the Hantana Hills today. Travel to the foot of the Hantana Hills by car and cycle up the hill through tea plantations and rural villages enroute visiting a Tea Museum. In the afternoon, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06: Kandy – Hatton (80km) Total Biking Distance : 50 kms Category : ModerateAfter breakfast, travel to Kandy and further on to Nawalapitya, where you start cycling. You will get to cycle along lush tea plantation roads that crisscross this landscape till you arrive in the green acres of Hatton. Check into your tea bungalow for your overnight stay.(Full Board)
Day 07: Hatton - Belihuloya (100km) Total Biking Distance : 50 kms Category : Moderate to HardToday you will travel to Belihuloya going first to Bogowantalawa by car and then cycling through the Peak Wilderness Natural Reserve to get to your destination. Belihuloya is a picturesque hamlet that links the dry and wet zones at an altitude of less than 1500 m and the vegetation consists of moist semi-evergreen forests, tropical savanna forests, dry patana grasslands and montane temperate forests, making it one of the richest bio-diversity spots in Sri Lanka and a fantastic location to cycle. Overnight stay in Belihuloya.(Full Board)
Day 08 : Belihuloya – Udawalawe (90km) Leave Belihuloya after breakfast and proceed to the Udawalawe Wildlife Park. On arrival settle in to your campsite and later go for for an evening game drive through the Park. Designated a National Park in 1972, Udawalawe covers some 31,800 hectares. Surrounded by mountains, the Park is a mix of rolling grasslands, teak plantations and rain forests. Renowned for its large herd of elephants (this is in fact one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see them), the Park is also home to deer, wild boar, buffalo, jackal, even the odd leopard. The park’s bird population is acknowledged to be second to none. Overnight stay at the campsite.(Full Board)
Day 09: Udawalawe - Unawatuna (150km) After another morning game drive, travel onwards to Unawatuna. Situated south of Colombo, near Galle, Unawatunas beaches are rated as some of the best in the world and are the ideal place to finish your tour. Spend your day at leisure on the beach. You could also enjoy some snorkelling or diving here.Enjoy a rejuvenating Ayurveda massage. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 10 : Unawatuna / Departure (100km/2.5hrs) Departure transfer to the airport for your return flight. (Vehicle for transfer).
